In continuation from the previous post which was an introduction to VMware vROps , Now we will begin the deployment and configuration of vROps. With Clustering and High Availability added to vROps it becomes more easier for different instances (Nodes) to share different data , metrics among each other. Here in this post I will cover the stand alone deployment of vROps 6. If you are trying to deploy using vSphere Web client then it is necessary to install Client Integration plugin before beginning deployment. Browse the vROps ova package and accept EULA.

1Provide the Name for the appliance and choose where to deploy that is Datacenter , Cluster where we will deploy vROps. In the Deployment Configuration Page choose the appropriate Size of the appliance , this will depend the number of VM’s that will be monitored by the vROps. Different Sizes are explained while we choose the option during deployment so I will not cover them.

1
Kindly specify the Cluster and Hosts you want to deploy vROps and Choose the data store and also if its Thick Eager /Lazy Zeroed or Thin provisioned. Finally provide all the Network details which includes Time Zone , Gateway, DNS , IP and Subnet etc and don’t forget to power on appliance after deployment.

1
After the deployment has finished we must enter the IP of vROps in the browser and we would be re-directed to the “Get started” Page. Since this is our first Node we must choose New Installation from the below page.

1
By default , for the initial deployment of Master Node , We must create a New Cluster Just Click Next.
1

Next step is to set an Admin password for vROps , This will be the password that is used for log in vROps Admin UI.

1

Next Step is provide a valid Certificate , We can use an SSL certificate or any CA signed Cert. Or the most common and simple method is to use the default Certificate of vROps.

1

Provide Deployment Settings , This includes Cluster Master Node which is visible only for the first Node . Also kindly use the NTP server, if you have one.

1
Click Finish and begin the Configuration of vROps , The below image is seen and after it successfully configures the We have to press Start vRealize Operations Manager , Confirm First Application Startup by Clicking Yes, as in below image.

1
We can now see the Cluster Status which says Going Online once that is done vROps will automatically reload or we can manually refresh the browser.

1

And after that we have to choose Configuration type, Since we are installing the first Node we will choose New Environment.

1
Accept EULA , Enter Product License Key and Click Finish , vROps will automatically reload and it will navigate to Administration Page as shown in the below image.

1
So until now we have successfully Deployed and Configured a Master Node instance of our vROps. Click on VMware vSphere and you see that vCenter Adapter is Not Configured. And we can see that we have to press the configure Icon as shown in the above image.

1

Click on vCenter Adapter and provide the details for Adapter settings. These includes Display name , Description , Under Basic setting Provide the IP address of our vCenter and then provide vCenter Credentials and Test Connection .

1

As Test Connection passes Save the Setting and Click Next and Accept Defaults and Click Finish. Below Image also shows the Collection Status as Collecting and Data Receiving. And This will Begin the Monitoring from vROps. And all of these details are shown in its UI with the help of different Dashboards.
